Karen Read Case Investigator Trooper Michael Proctor Will Testify in Murder Trial, Defense Says

More Than 100 Pages of Documents Related to the Case Released

March 13, 2024 9:37 AM EDT CBS Boston DEDHAM

The defense team for Karen Read said Tuesday that Trooper Michael Proctor, the lead investigator in her case, will testify on her behalf at her upcoming murder trial.

Read is accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend, Matthew Burke, in 2015. She has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to go on trial in April.

Proctor's testimony is expected to be a key part of the defense's case. He was the lead investigator in the case and was responsible for collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The defense has also filed a motion to dismiss the case, arguing that the prosecution has failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the charges against Read.

The prosecution is expected to call a number of witnesses, including Burke's family and friends, as well as medical experts.

The trial is expected to last several weeks.

In a related development, more than 100 pages of documents related to the case were released by the Suffolk County District Attorney's office on Monday.

The documents include police reports, witness statements, and medical records.

The release of the documents comes just days ahead of Read's trial.
