Geomagnetic storm reaches G3 strength
CME arrival triggers strong geomagnetic storm
NOAA's G-scale rates storm as G3
A geomagnetic storm has reached G3 strength, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The storm was triggered by the arrival of a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun. The CME arrived ahead of schedule on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 20:26 UTC.
NOAA's G-scale rates geomagnetic storms from G1 to G5, with G5 being the most severe. G3 storms can cause power outages, disruptions to satellite communications, and problems with GPS navigation.
The current storm is expected to continue for several hours. NOAA is monitoring the storm and will provide updates as needed.
